W1-Website design fundamentals
WEEK 1
PRACTICAL
During the first week practical, the lecturer was assigning us for the assignments that the students need to complete in the 14 weeks of the semester. Firstly, the students need to create a Pinterest board to shows the inspiration of the students from there for the assignments and create a blog page for the weekly journal for explaining the ideas that we get inspired by.
The images below are the styles that I get inspired by. Which they are all using a very interesting ways to create a creative designs by playing with contrast of the size of font, the font they are using are modern which is mostly Sans Serif and the simple but large subject matters (images) that can deliver the message directly and strong with the visuals.
LECTURE
During the lecture session, the lecturer firstly introduced himself and showing some of his previous works in the website. After all of the briefing and introduction, the lecturer started the lecture session which mentioned about the web design fundamentals and some of the principles that can help the students to start their assignments.
Basic & Simple
For beginners as like students, the lecturer preferred they go for something basic, simple and fun for their first site design. The lecture slide also stated that blog is a great way to start, if the students know how to manage the content, it will be helpful for them to design their website. This is the reason that the lecturer letting the students to make their own board in Pinterest and find some inspiration that they like.
Mood board for observation
Finding inspiration from other designers and put them in a mood board is important for the students to learn, to learn effectively, the students need to observe the design from typography, colours and atmosphere.
UI & UX
Lecturer mentioned about the UI and UX in the lesson, which the UI is stand for user interface relates to the functionality, appearance, and feel of a product screen or online page, where the user experience (UX) encompasses a user's whole interaction with a product or website. The lecturer said, if the users experience is not good enough to let the users to stay to discover the website or click into it, then the design is not good.
At the end of the class, we have a little game from the lecturer which let us to know whcih brain are we really using in the moment. As for the left brain is for logical thinking, and for the right brain is for creative thinking.
